Single cell microbiology and nitrification

My group is interested in the biology of nitrifying bacteria and archaea – microbes that play a major role in fertilizer loss, greenhouse gas production and sewage treatment. We study these recalcitrant microbes using cutting edge molecular, cultivation and physiology tools. Furthermore, we develop NanoSIMS and Raman-based single cell stable isotope methods for analyzing the function and interaction of microbes in their natural environments.
