Biogenesis and degradation of mRNA in humans

Messenger RNA (mRNA) maturation by capping, splicing, and cleavage and polyadenylation generates protein-coding information from primary transcripts. It is crucial for all cellular functions and widely disrupted in disease. My group is interested in understanding how mRNA maturation is functionally linked to transcription in human cells and how potentially harmful aberrant transcripts are identified and degraded when these processes fail.
