Analyzing organisms in their biological environment identified metabolic interplays between organisms of interest (humans, animals, plants) and their microbial associated communities (microbiome, microbiota or microbial flora). We discovered novel actions of natural metabolites provided by the microbiome that the host cannot synthesize by itself and we explore the underlying processes in the context of multiple environmental transitions
