The vascular cambium consists of stem cells that divide and differentiate to produce woody tissues (xylem) in one direction and phloem tissues in the opposite direction. The goal of our group is to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying the bidirectional production of xylem and phloem by the vascular cambium in Arabidopsis thaliana, aspen, and cassava storage roots.
