My group studies the parasite that causes the most serious form of human malaria, Plasmodium falciparum. The research activities are mostly based on gene regulation strategies of the red blood cell stage of Plasmodium falciparum's life cycle that is responsible for all clinical symptoms. A major focus is on the investigation of epigenetic/epitranscriptomic control layers orchestrating immune evasion (antigenic variation) and pathogenesis.
