Protein insertion into membranes

My group has characterized mechanisms by which newly synthesized proteins are inserted into the membrane of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). These proteins are targeted to the ER membrane by a signal sequence located either at the N- or C-terminus. N-terminal signal sequences mediate membrane insertion of secretory and type I and type II membrane proteins while a C-terminal signal sequence mediates the insertion of tail-anchored membrane proteins

Keywords: Protein insertion into membranes / membrane biogenesis / signal sequences / signal recognition particle / tail anchored proteins
