Bacteria communicate using small molecules that travel from cell to cell. This process, called quorum sensing, allows groups of bacteria to synchronize their behavior and collectively undertake tasks including virulence and biofilm formation. We are developing strategies to interfere with quorum sensing for use as novel anti-microbials.
