Nucleoli, sites of ribosome biogenesis, are the largest structures in the human nucleus. They form around arrays of ribosomal genes (rDNA), nucleolar organiser regions (NORs), located on the poorly characterised p-arms of the five acrocentric chromosomes. My research is aimed at describing the chromosomal context of human NORs, determining how this influences nucleolar formation, organisation and rDNA genomic stability.
