The ability to respond appropriately to a variable environment governs the adaptive evolution of photosynthetic organisms. To investigate these processes we use Arabidopsis to examine the influence of light on chromatin-level regulation, and the diatom Phaeodactylum to explore responses to light and nutrients in marine environments. We are also members of the Tara Oceans consortium, and focus on global biogeographic patterns of diatom diversity and abundance.
