We study the ecological distribution of Archaea and explore their evolutionary history, molecular adaptations, environmental impact and biotechnological applications. Eventually, we want to find out how Archaea that arose together with Bacteria as the first organisms on this planet, have radiated from hot springs into commonplace environments and how they contributed to the evolution of Eukaryotes.
