Our research aims to understand the principles by which a family tree or 'lineage' of GABAergic neurons unfolds in space and time, and to identify the signals that cause GABAergic precursors to differentiate into a variety of specialised subtypes. GABAergic neurons play a critical role in brain computation and function, and defects in their development are associated with neuropsychiatric disorders.
