Bacterial pathogenesis and vaccine development

My group works on the pathogenesis of infections caused by Neisseria meningitidis and Shigella flexneri. The main interests of the group are the interaction of these bacteria with the immune system, and their ability to adhere to and enter cells. The group also aims to devise approaches to prevent these infections through vaccines based on understanding the virulence mechanisms the bacteria employ to cause disease.
