I am fascinated by how the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) circulating around the brain and spinal cord influences brain development and functions. My group has discovered a novel sensory organ in the spinal cord relying on neurons interacting with the Reissner fiber in the CSF to sense spinal stretch. CSF-contacting neurons feed back inhibition to motor circuits to adjust locomotion, posture and development of the body axis and spine.
