We work on the neural basis of color vision in Drosophila. We have described how stochastic decisions, a transcription factor network and a tumor suppressor pathway contribute to the diversification of photoreceptors. We also study how neuronal diversity in the optic lobes that process visual information is generated by a temporal sequence of transcription factors in neural stem cells and by spatial patterning.
