We study processes that establish cell diversity and pattern in early vertebrate embryos (mainly using chick). Current projects include: 1. Establishment of axis of polarity and coordination of cell movements with gene expression 2. Molecular mechanisms of neural induction and regionalization 3. Somite development: role of the clock 4. Embryonic stem cells – where are they in the embryo, and can we use them to understand developmental pathways?
