Our group studies how eukaryotic mRNAs are made by a series of macromolecular machines. These machines make dramatic changes to the nascent mRNA and the mRNA-bound proteins, and ultimately prepare mRNA for export from nucleus to cytoplasm. Using an integrative structural biology approach together with functional methods, our goal is to uncover the mechanisms of key steps in nuclear mRNA biogenesis.
