My lab studies the prokaryotic immune system known as CRISPR-Cas. This system is able to capture pieces of DNA from invading genetic elements, and use this information to destroy cognate sequences through the action of RNA-guided nucleases. CRISPR-Cas systems have found a diversity of biotechnological applications. We are in particular interested in repurposing them to study and fight pathogenic bacteria.
