Although I have been retired for over 15 years I still run a small research group in the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine. Our work relates mainly to studies in the developing countries of the molecular basis for the phenotypic variation in the thalassaemias and the evolutionary biology that underlies their extremely high frequency.
