Mechanisms of Salmonella pathogenesis

My group studies the molecular basis of Salmonella virulence, including functions of effector proteins delivered into host cells by the SPI-2 type III secretion system. We are also analyzing bacterial replication dynamics at the single cell level. We found that many Salmonella cells enter a viable non-replicating state in vivo. The underlying molecular mechanisms are being investigated.
