We study mechanisms that underlie the formation and functions of boundary formation in the nervous system. We use gene manipulation and in vivo imaging in zebrafish, cell culture assays, and computer simulations to analyse how Eph receptor and ephrin signaling segregates cells and establishes sharp boundaries. In related work, we study how boundary cells form and pattern neurogenesis in the hindbrain.
