My research group studies the catalysis of disulfide bond formation between cysteine amino acids in proteins. Enzymes that generate disulfide cross-links are key control points in assembling functional protein architectures. For example, we are investigating how a disulfide catalyst secreted from cells is involved in the assembly of the extracellular matrix, with potential applications in controlling cancer cell metastasis.
