Our group is interested in how living systems can be flexible and adaptable, yet still create functional tissues that follow species-defined patterning rules. We have developed the stomatal lineage into a framework for studying plant cell fate, stem-cell self-renewal, and cell polarity, and how these mechanisms drive plant behavior across multiple spatial scales, from molecules and cells to whole plants and ecosystems.
