My research program uses genetically engineered mouse models of human cancer to elucidate mechanisms by which incipient neoplasias develop into tumors that then progress to acquire the hallmark capability for invasion and metastasis. One emphasis is on the roles and regulation of stromal cells that compose, along with cancer cells, tumor microenvironments that are instrumental in the biology and pathology of cancer. A second is on translational therapeutic oncology, whereby we seek via preclinical trial to innovate improved therapies for human cancer.
