My group seeks to understand how humans acquire immunity to malaria following repeated infections and aims to leverage this to develop highly efficacious and durable vaccines. We used challenge studies to demonstrate unequivocally that humans can be completely resistant to malaria. We showed that the breadth of IgG Fc-mediated mechanisms of immunity targeting merozoites was the strongest correlates of protection and could guide vaccine design.
