Our group investigates how the gut microbiota influences host metabolism and contributes to cardiometabolic diseases. We discovered that individuals with type 2 diabetes have an altered gut microbiota and identified microbial metabolites, such as imidazole propionate, that impair insulin signaling. Our work combines mechanistic studies with human cohorts to uncover microbiome-driven pathways relevant to type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
