My group develops and applies cryo-electron tomography and integrative structural biology to visualize molecular processes directly inside cells. We combine cryo-EM, computational image analysis and biochemistry to uncover how proteins are synthesized, targeted, inserted into membranes and processed at the endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria. Our work reveals fundamental mechanisms of cellular organization, protein homeostasis and disease.
