My research included: (i) Histone H1 dependent folding of DNA into nucleosomes and chromatin fibers, (ii) nucleosome positioning in yeast, (iii) chromatin structure of yeast genes and the fate of nucleosomes during transcription, (v) DNA damage formation by UV light in chromatin, (vi) DNA repair by photolyase and nucleotide excision repair as a model system for how proteins access DNA in functionally distinct chromatin regions.
