Shivashankar's laboratory is focused on understanding the role of cell mechanics in genome architecture and regulation in health and disease using a multidisciplinary approach at the intersection of cell biology, biophysics, engineering and medicine. Importantly, they recently discovered that sustained growth of single somatic cells, under particular mechanical confinements, results in the induction of cell-state transitions and stem-cell like spheroids.
