Our lab studies mitochondrial DNA heteroplasmy transmission. By creating Drosophila carrying two mitochondrial genotypes, we perform systematic and gene-focused studies to identify nuclear factors and mtDNA polymorphisms that bias the transmission of one genome over the other to impact the progression and inheritance of mtDNA-linked disorders. We also study mechanisms that guarantee the maternal inheritance of mtDNA and maintain mtDNA integrity.
