We have provided evidence on the selection and determination of the T cell reportoire by selection of useful, neglection of useless and destruction of harmful cells in the thymus of TCR transgenic mice, discovered the pre-T cell receptor and prevented type 1 diabetes in NOD mice by vaccination and conversion into regulatory T cells of naive T cells with a strongly agonistic mimetope of insulin.
