Specificity and disease in ubiquitin signalling

My research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying protein ubiquitination. We study how different signals are assembled, how they alter the function of the target protein, and how they are removed. We use two model systems: (i) the highly specific Fanconi Anemia DNA repair pathway, which is regulated by single ubiquitin signals; and (ii) Parkin, a promiscuous enzyme that targets many substrates.
