Our laboratory studies the mechanisms by which eukaryotic cells maintain genomic integrity. We use both model organisms and human cells to study how a breakdown in the maintenance of genome stability impacts on cancer and ageing. In recent years, we have focused on how RecQ helicases (e.g. BLM) suppress chromosome instability in S-phase through their actions in homologous recombination repair, and how defective replication impacts on mitosis.
