Evolution of centromeres and genome organisation

Our lab integrates tools in molecular and evolutionary biology, genomics and biochemistry to study the evolution of chromatin and genome architecture. Our current focus is on the evolution of centromeres, genomic regions essential for chromosome segregation in all eukaryotes, yet highly diverse among organisms. We investigate one of the most extreme cases of centromere divergence, the transition from mono- to holocentromeres.
