Our group uses the visual system of Drosophila as a genetic model to investigate the mechanisms by which neurons and glia assemble into functional neural circuits. We are particularly interested in the cell-type specific molecular programs and mutual interactions of afferent axons, glia and target neurons that regulate the stepwise formation of laminated and columnar synaptic units within this circuit.
