Our lab aims to understand the major forces that shape bacterial evolution in the mammalian gut ecosystem and the consequences of their evolutionary change to host health. We combine both theoretical modeling and in-vivo experimental evolution to study bacteria adaptation to the host immune system and to unravel the genetic basis of compensatory evolution in multiple-drug resistant strains.
Keywords: Mutation rate / adaptive landscape / antibiotic resistance / gut colonization / microbe-host co-evolution
