Mitochondria play an essential role in cell metabolism. Our group focuses on the activity of the mitochondrial pyruvate carrier during proliferation and metastasis of cancer cells and on the regulation of synaptic transmission in the brain. Another aspect of our research is the functional characterisation of mitochondrial RNA granules, which we recently identified, and their role in mitochondrial gene expression.
