Our overarching aim is to understand the cell biological mechanisms that underlie patterning and homeostasis in developing epithelia. We pursue two distinct but synergistic areas of research. In one, we study secretion and transport of Wingless (a member of the Wnt family of lipoproteins). A second research aim is to identify and characterise the signals that trigger apoptosis as a result of epithelial disruption or conflicting developmental instructions.
