Some planarian flatworms have the amazing ability to regenerate their entire body from tiny tissue fragments. We are investigating the self-organising signalling networks and adult pluripotent stem cells that control the regeneration of the planarian body plan. We are also collecting, culturing and comparatively analysing non-regenerating planarian species to investigate how and why regenerative abilities change during evolution.
