The OXPHOS system as an integrator of metabolism

Our research activity has focused on the study of the OXPHOS system, showing that the respiratory complexes are organized into supercomplexes that co-exist dynamically with the free complexes. This optimizes the cell metabolism while minimizing ROS production. We have also explored the role of ROS as a mitochondrial second messenger, the relevance of mtDNA genetic variability, and the impact of mitochondria on organism physio-pathology.
