Microtubule motors transport cargos to enable cellular organization and function. We seek to define how motors cooperate mechanistically with their cargos and microtubule tracks. Using single molecule techniques, structural and cell biology, we study how the tracks and cargos regulate motor activity, focussing on mitotic motors. We are also defining the molecular basis for pathogenic mutations in microtubule tracks.
