Mechanisms of DNA repair and innate immunity

My laboratory studies the molecular mechanisms of the cellular responses to genome instabilty and foreign nucleic acids, in particular, how cellular DNA/RNA sensors distinguish right from wrong or self from non-self. We use a combination of structural, molecular and cell biology to address the structures and mechanisms of DNA double-strand break sensors and repair enzymes, chromatin modifying enzymes and antiviral RNA sensors in the innate immune system.
