Our work is focused on stress responses, ppGpp, translation and toxin–antitoxins (TAs). We have shown that TA genes are required for bacterial persistence and analyse how the stochastic ON/OFF switching of TA activity is regulated. We now focus to understanding how bacteria control their ppGpp levels during growth and stress. We also work to understanding persistence of bacterial model organisms and pathogens.
