I work on the mechanism of specification of mammalian primordial germ cells, the precursors of sperm and eggs. This event is coupled with the initiation of epigenetic program in early germ cells, which is critical for totipotency, mammalian development and the transmission of genetic and epigenetic information to subsequent generations. We use pluripotent stem cells to replicate and study competence for germline events in vitro.
