My scientific work focuses on the basic mechanisms involved in the control and catalysis of pre-mRNA splicing by the spliceosome, specifically focusing on the mechanism of splicing catalysis and interactions between the components of the catalytic center. We use genetic analysis in the yeast, S. cerevisiae, to study the dynamic conformational changes in the spliceosome, and their consequences on substrate selectivity.
