We work on horizontal gene transfer using plasmid pMV158 as model. It is the prototype of the MOBV family of mobilization proteins. We also work on chromatically-encoded pneumococcal toxin-antitoxin operons. We focus on protein-DNA interactions, control of gene expression, structure of replication and relaxation proteins, and mechanisms of lateral gene spread and identification of novel pneumococcal virulence genes.
