My lab is interested in the evolution and diversity of vertebrate brains. We focus on the evolution of the telencephalon and compare developmental pathways, cell types, and neural circuits in non-conventional vertebrate species. Our work showed that neuron types in the cerebral cortex have distinct evolutionary trajectories, with conservation of GABAergic types and extreme diversification of glutamatergic types.
