Malaria is a public health problem. It is caused by Plasmodium parasites that are highly divergent from well-studied organisms. In my laboratory, we want to improve our understanding of the parasite's specific biology, so that it can be exploited by new drugs. We are interested in three aspects of intracellular signalling that are critical for the pathogenicity and transmission: calcium signalling, cell cycle regulation and protein processing.
