The neural basis of spatial mapping and spatial memory.

We try to understand how the brain computes and processes information and how this results in cognitive behavior and experience. With the combination of advanced lesion, anatomical, molecular and recording techniques, the research has resulted in several important discoveries. The most spectacular finding was the discovery of grid cells in the entorhinal cortex, one synapse upstream of the hippocampus.
