Regeneration of the vertebrate brain and retina
My group studies the mechanisms underlying vertebrate brain development and regeneration. We ask how neural stem cells give rise to and maintain the adult brain and retina during normal homeostasis and regeneration of the brain and retina, and which signaling processes drive this. Zebrafish have a spectacular ability to regenerate and excellent genetics and molecular biology tools, and thus are particularly well-suited for these studies.
