My main area of research concerns the role of calcium (Ca2+) in the mode of action of hormones and neurotransmitters. I concentrate on the problem of how cells detect external signals and translate information into the intracellular signalling pathways that control processes such as neural signalling, cardiac contractility and cell proliferation. I am also interested in the role of Vitamin D in maintaining these cell signaling pathways in both health and disease.
